In April 2024, I had the opportunity to participate in the 4th Artificial Intelligence and Libraries Symposium in Santiago, Chile, where I presented Transitioning to Linked Data Formats to Prepare for an Artificial Intelligence Future.

The symposium brought together library professionals and specialists from different countries to share experiences, research, and best practices related to the use of artificial intelligence in libraries. It was jointly organized by the Universidad de Chile, the Biblioteca del Congreso Nacional de Chile, and the IFLA Information Technology Section and its AI Special Interest Group. My presentation took place during the closing session on April 12, held at the National Congress building in Santiago.
In my presentation, I explored the relationship between the evolution of bibliographic metadata formats and the development of artificial intelligence. In particular, I discussed the transition from traditional formats such as MARC to linked data models such as BIBFRAME, and how this shift can help make library data more structured, connected, and reusable in an environment where AI is becoming increasingly important.

The presentation also gave me the opportunity to bring together two areas I have been working on and that I see as closely connected: the evolution of metadata and linked data, and the possibilities AI offers for transforming how libraries describe, discover, and provide access to their collections.
