In March 2024, I participated virtually in Estrategias para Innovar con IA y datos enlazados en la biblioteca, an event held at the Lucía Invernizzi Auditorium in the Faculty of Philosophy and Humanities at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago. Although I couldn't be there in person this time—which was a shame!—I was glad to take part in a day dedicated to exploring the new possibilities that artificial intelligence and linked data offer academic libraries.
During the event, I joined the session El impacto de la inteligencia artificial generativa en las bibliotecas académicas alongside Margarita Pérez, from the University of Miami, and Mara Reyna, from Clarivate–Ex Libris.
Our session explored how the rapid development of generative AI was beginning to affect academic libraries. We discussed both the challenges posed by this technology and the opportunities it presents for transforming library services, workflows, and the ways people access and discover information.
The session was part of a broader event focused on library innovation, with particular attention to artificial intelligence, linked data, and interoperability. The program brought together academic librarians in Chile and specialists from Clarivate–Ex Libris to discuss these developments and their relationship to platforms and services such as Alma, Primo, and Leganto.
Participating also gave me the opportunity to share the University of Miami Libraries' experience and continue exploring two topics that have since become increasingly important in my work: the application of AI in libraries and the transition toward linked data and metadata ecosystems.
