In December 2025, I had the opportunity to return to the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) for the second time, this time as part of the ALA/FIL Free Pass Program. It was a very rewarding experience, both professionally and personally.

During my visit, I explored new Spanish-language publications, connected with publishers and distributors, met with different companies, and selected materials for the University of Miami Libraries' collections. FIL is a great opportunity to learn more about the Latin American publishing industry firsthand and discover books that are not always easy to find or acquire from the United States.
Participating through the ALA program also gave me the chance to meet librarians from across the United States, exchange professional experiences, and make new friends. And, of course, it wasn't all books and meetings! There was also time to enjoy Guadalajara, attend dinners, and take part in some of the parties and gatherings organized by publishers.

Overall, it was a really enjoyable and interesting experience. I was able to combine my work in selection and collection development with one of the things I value most about librarianship: meeting other librarians, exchanging ideas, and building connections beyond my own institution.
